Along Morocco’s coast in the mid 1970s, villages like Taghazout were still quiet fishing stretches, known more for sardine boats than surfboards. Evenings were slow and social. Young men gathered at small seaside cafés, passing a hookah between them, sipping hot mint tea, and letting the hours drift by with stories, jokes, and the sound of the ocean in the dark
One night in the spring of 1974, a sunburned European surfer wandered into the café and struck up a conversation with a group of local friends. He told them about a clean break just down the coast and asked if any of them surfed
They laughed.
“Surf? With what boards?”
He shrugged.
“I’ve got a couple extra.
My friends are heading into the market tomorrow, so they won’t be using them. If you want, meet me at sunrise and we’ll go out together.”
The idea excited them, but one of the boys glanced down at his long robe and sandals
“We don’t have shorts like yours.”
The tourist grinned and waved it off
“No problem. We’ll figure something out.”
They agreed to meet in the morning
The next day, the friends walked down to the beach, the air still cool and the sky barely turning gold. The tourist was already there, boards stuck upright in the sand. He greeted them like old companions and, without hesitation, started undressing as if it were the most ordinary thing in the world
The friends froze. No extra shorts. Just this naked hippie smiling back at them and the sound of waves crashing behind him
One of them looked at the others, then at the tourist, then back again. He let out a nervous laugh, loosened his robe, and said:
“What? Do you expect a man to surf in his thobe..? Simply avert your eyes, brother.”
He stripped down with a grin from ear to ear and jogged toward the water.
The others stared at one another, stunned for a second, then burst out laughing. One by one, they dropped their robes, grabbed the spare boards, and followed him into the surf, shouting and splashing without a care in the world
Back at the café that afternoon, wrapped in dry robes and warming their hands around fresh glasses of tea, they couldn’t stop laughing about the whole thing. How cold the water felt, how many times they fell, and the look on each other’s faces when the robes hit the sand
When the next month came around, someone mentioned the beach again, almost as a joke
“Same time? Sunrise?”
No one argued. They excitedly nodded and passed the hookah around
It wasn’t exactly a club, but it wasn’t exactly not a club either. I guess you could say they were a handful of friends, out to have a good time

Wrong Address Disclaimer

We will work with the shipping carrier to resolve the issue and ensure you receive your order. If the item arrives damaged, please provide photos of the damaged product and packaging.

Due to the custom nature of our products, we do not accept returns or exchanges unless the item is damaged or incorrect.
